Aboriginal Art Online Australian Aboriginal Art

Contemporary Aboriginal art is a vital part of the world's oldest continuous cultural tradition. It is also one of the most brilliant and exciting areas of modern art.

We offer quality paintings and limited edition prints by Aboriginal artists - together with information and comment to help understand these art works. Visit our online galleries and explore the articles by experts, photographs and a wide range of information on Aboriginal art, culture and communities, using the navigation bar on the left. The most recent works on the site are listed under Latest Additions.

Because we work directly with Aboriginal communities, the quality of the work on offer is high, prices are very competitive and much of the income goes directly to the artists themselves.

From our online shop you can buy books about Aboriginal art and culture and a selection of information CDs. Shopping with your credit card is totally safe, backed by our guarantee of on-line security.

This month an outstanding book "Lives of the Papunya Tula Artists" has been published. It chronicles the beginnings of the Western Desert Aboriginal art movement and the development of its founding art company over the last 40 years. Along with the books of Geoffrey Bardon, it will be the key reference for Papunya Tula art for years to come. Buy your copy now from our Online Shop!

The Jukurrpa Aboriginal Art Diary for 2009 is also available and makes a perfect Christmas/New Year gift.

Contemporary Aboriginal artists use a considerable variety of materials and techniques in painting. Some of these materials are rooted strongly in tradition - such as the use of ochre pigments in the Kimberley and bark from Arnhem Land. Other artists have adopted modern media and work with acrylic paints on canvas, archival paper or other surfaces. One recent development in Aboriginal art has been the growth in pottery and ceramics - for an outstanding example see our selection of Balgo glass works.
